The Department of Orthopaedics at Saraswathi Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Hapur has been offering orthopaedic and trauma care since 2008. Procedures

Arthroscopic Management of Sports Injuries

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure for diagnosis and treatment of joint problems using a camera system through small incisions in a minimally invasive way. The department carries out arthroscopies of the knee, shoulder and ankle.

Common conditions treated include torn ligaments, meniscus injuries, cartilage damage, recurrent shoulder dislocation and sports related trauma. Arthroscopy involves smaller incisions than open surgery, so patients usually have less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries.

The Sports Injury Clinic provides expert assessment and rehabilitation services for sports injuries to help athletes and those who are physically active.

Spinal Surgery

The department deals with several spinal problems like trauma related spinal injuries, TB spine, degenerative spine disease, prolapsed intervertebral disc (PIVD) or slip disc.

Spine surgery is done on patients with severe back pain, nerve compression, weakness, numbness or spinal instability. In complex spinal cases with neurological complications, the department works in collaboration with neurosurgery specialists.

Fracture and Injury Surgery

Fracture and trauma management forms a large part of the department’s workload. The team deals with simple fractures and more complex high-energy trauma from road traffic accidents, falls or industrial injuries.

Depending on the severity of the injury, plaster immobilisation, external fixation, internal fixation with plates and screws, intramedullary nailing, and reconstructive procedures are possible. Emergency trauma services run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so they can deliver urgent surgical treatment when it’s needed, of course.

Joint Preservation Procedures

Not every patient will need a joint replacement surgery. The department also performs joint preservation procedures for younger patients or those with early-stage joint damage to delay degeneration and preserve natural joint function.

Such procedures could include cartilage repair, corrective surgeries, ligament reconstruction or minimally invasive procedures aimed at maintaining mobility and reducing long-term complications.
